Hydraulic Log Splitter: How to Properly Care for Your Log Splitter
Cutting logs in the middle of the forest is never an easy task. Aside from the tons of logs bound for cutting, splitting it afterwards require an enormous amount of energy from you. But times have changed, splitting logs is as easy as getting a log splitter to keep the job more manageable wherever you are.
Wood or log splitters are a man’s best friend when splitting logs or woods, for firewood or general construction needs. It keeps splitting easier, faster, and more convenient for the user. It is safer than using an axe, which could as well cut you when administered carelessly. However, there are different kinds of wood splitters. One of them is the hydraulic log splitter.
A hydraulic log splitter is far more efficient tool than using wedges, mauls, or sledge hammers. It keeps your back of getting tired from the endless bending to split the logs. When it is a large and tough log, it easily yields to a hydraulic log splitter. I am not saying that you will not anymore need a manual tool for your forestry or construction needs, so do not throw them off yet.
Like any tool, a hydraulic log splitter needs utmost care and attention to keep it in proper shape all the time. Remind yourself that it needs to be cleaned off and polished right after its usage. The residue and sap from the wood can make the metal of the log splitter rust. An auto cleaner or polisher can usually get rid of sap, but if that will not work, the residue or sap can be removed with mineral spirits. Since the surface is all-painted metal like an automobile, the automobile wax or cleaner can also keep rust off from the metal and in good condition.
When storing the wood splitter along with its bleed valve, release the screw or keep it open. In this case, the hydraulic ram is totally free of pressure and retracted at the same time. By doing so, the hydraulic log splitter does not run out of hydraulic fluid even while in storage.
The operating pumps or levers should also be placed in a fully retracted position to not expose the small hydraulic pump pistons. Remember they are metal and can rust even in storage. When the surface of the pistons turns rough, it will largely minimize the usability of the gaskets and rubber seals.
These splitter tools are costly, even the used one can cost much for an average earner. Why not? With the efficiency and competency that it extends at home and work, money spent to purchase your own splitter is truly worth it. That is why the hydraulic log splitter should undergo proper cleaning before and after your use.
Wood or log splitters are one of those tools that bring great help and advancement in the industry of logging, forestry, and general construction. It is not surprising that many of these do-it-yourself workers, homeowners, and companies make use of one for to make their jobs easier.
